In 1989, the General Accounting Office conducted a nationwide telephone survey that showed that the majority of Americans, in both deposit and nondeposit states, support a national deposit law. A 1993 nationwide poll by Peter D. Hart found that 3 out of 4 Americans supported a national bottle bill.
