Enhanced bottle bill proponents, officials speak at Rockland Lake
By SUZAN CLARKE
ROCKLAND LAKE STATE PARK - Proponents of an enhanced bottle bill that would encourage recycling and generate money for state environmental programs came to the park this morning to call on lawmakers to enact the legislation.
They gathered at a press conference near the park's Nature Center to hear local and state officials and community leaders speak about the proposed legislation dubbed the "Bigger, Better Bottle Bill."
"Consumer habits have changed substantially from when the original law was enacted," Carol Ash, New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation commissioner, said. "Each year, a growing number of bottles and cans end up in the trash or marring our state's parkland, roadways and neighborhoods. From an environmental standpoint, we must do better."
