Assembly passes bottle bill
NEW YORK STATE -- The state assembly has passed legislation, which they say modernizes the "Bigger, Better Bottle Bill."
The Assembly Bill would expand the existing law to include a five cent deposit on all non-carbonated drinks, like sports drinks, juices and iced teas.
Assembly leaders say these drinks make up 27 percent of beverage sales in the state. They say the expansion of the law will help keep these bottles from littering New York streets. It would also make sure every unredeemed five cent deposit is returned to the state and invested in environmental programs.
The senate has not yet voted on the bill.
