Senate hearing on container refund plan
A Senate inquiry will hear from food manufacturers and grocers on Monday as it considers a container deposit and recovery scheme.
Environmental groups will also give evidence at a public hearing in Melbourne.
The upper house committee is looking at a plan by the Australian Greens to establish an environmental levy of 10 cents for each beverage container.
The Greens are keen to impose a national model based on a scheme currently operating in South Australia.
The committee will hear from the Australian Food and Grocery Council, Australians for Refunds on Cans and Bottlers, and aluminium manufacturer Alcoa.
