Stealing is plain wrong

When someone heists a Salvation Army (or similar charity) container, we become incensed, and rightly so, and hope they catch the culprit soon.

But what about our governments, both state and federal, who steal designated funds from us regularly. The federal government has been stealing our FICA designated paycheck contributions now for decades, funds to be set aside for future distribution to beneficiaries.

Gone! All gone, spent on other things. To me, that is theft. No wonder the “fund” is bankrupt.

Now about our state: Going through the checkout stand, we are required to pony up deposit money on all recyclable containers, to both fund the recyclable operations and to return that money to those who were required to give it to that operation. Now, the news reports, the state is lifting approximately $451 million to help “balance the state budget.”

Consequently, you don't get your deposit back, and the operation shuts down, putting a lot of people out of work, and adding to our landfill, which was the purpose of the program in the first place. That, dear folks, is also theft.

We need to let our voices be heard on both thefts.
