Supports state 'Bottle Bill'

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —

To the Editor:

I am more than a little disappointed that anyone voted for more pollution by not voting for tax on bottles and cans.

Tennessee keeps lagging behind every state in almost everything.

By having the tax, people would likely take the cans/bottle back to get their refund. By not having the tax, people are more inclined to keep polluting by throwing them away on the streets, parks and highways. I wouldn't care if there was $1 tax on each bottle and can.

I remember as a kid I was glad to find soda bottles so I could return them to stores and get some spending money, albeit a small amount.

How in the world could you be for more pollution is beyond me.

To me, taxes are a source of raising revenue which I cannot retrieve and put in my pocket, while the tax on return of bottles and cans would put money in my pocket. Putting cans and bottles in the recycling containers only benefits the company that recycles, not residents.

Why should the recycling company make money on the bottles and cans instead of we citizens?

Shame on all of you who voted against the measure, which meant a vote for more pollution.
