August 19, 2011 Floating down the Comal River in New Braunfels is big summer business, and a proposed rule prohibiting disposable containers is swirling up plenty of controversy....Preserving this precious resource, though, doesn't have to involve an outright ban on disposable containers along the Comal that could negatively impact tourism and small business owners in the area. A better approach is for state leaders to pass a beverage container deposit system, a program that would place a deposit on beverages typically sold in aluminum cans and plastic or glass bottles.
